Windmill Microlending is a national charity that provides affordable loans to skilled immigrants and refugees so they can continue their careers in Canada. Through our partnership, students at AAA Canadian Welding Academy can access low-interest microloans to cover the costs of their welding training and certification.

This program is designed specifically for newcomers to Canada who have the skills and determination to build a new career in the skilled trades but need financial support to get started.

Who Can Apply?

Windmill Microlending is available to immigrants and refugees looking to build a career in the skilled trades in Canada.

Windmill Microlending works with newcomers who are permanent residents or convention refugees in Canada. The program is built on the understanding that many skilled immigrants face financial barriers when trying to re-enter their profession or start a new career in Canada, even though they have the talent and drive to succeed.

To be eligible for a Windmill Microlending loan through AAA Canadian Welding Academy, applicants generally need to meet the following criteria:

  • Be a permanent resident, convention refugee, or protected person in Canada
  • Be enrolled in or accepted to a program at AAA Canadian Welding Academy
  • Demonstrate a commitment to completing the training program
  • Have a career plan that involves working in the welding trade after graduation
  • Be willing to work with a Windmill mentor throughout the loan process
